About Westville Senior Secondary High School, Port Elizabeth
Our school is situated in Baubinia Street, Sanctor, in the Northern Suburbs of Port Elizabeth. Over 70% of our learners are from poor and unemployed families. Our school caters for all English and Afrikaans speaking learners as a home language. We have a large percentage of learners whose home language is Xhosa.
There are various learner groups initiated to assist in a positive way and contribute to the ethos at school. The “I Care Group” was initiated to assist learners at school with the social and psychological problems they encounter at school.
The leadership and management meets once a month to discuss, consolidate and implement plans that was discussed at the annual indaba. Communications with the parents are done via letter and SMS. A quarterly newsletter called “The Westviller” is sent to all parents informing them about events and what happens at school. Results and other academic performances of the learners are reported to the parents quarterly.
The school has a democratically accepted 5GB constitution. Parents that are artisans but are unemployed are recorded on a database and are used by the school in its maintenance of the buildings and grounds.
