The University of Johannesburg UJ invites applications from suitably qualified applicants for admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes available for the 2024/2025 academic year.

International Applicants Admission Requirements

Admission of international applicants is subject to meeting both the university and the Faculty admission requirements as stipulated in the Admission Policy of the University of Johannesburg.

UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS

APPLICATION AND CLOSING DATE

Applications open on 01 April of the year preceding the year of intended study and closes on 30 September 2022 at 12:00 noon. Please Note: All applicants are advised to please not send cash through the mail or leave documents and cash with any unauthorized persons.

ALL INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ARE TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Submit a completed application form with supporting documents together with a non-refundable application fee of R200.00
  • Online applications are free
  • Supporting documents maybe uploaded to the application platform or emailed to [email protected]
  • Final School leaving results when applying with international credentials or currently in Grade 12 (Final Grade 11 results)
  • Valid Passport or Identity Document or Birth Certificate
  • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
    Provide proof of the English Proficiency where English was not used as a medium of learning and teaching (the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programmes) Alternatively, you may elect to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP). Should you choose to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP), you are required to obtain an overall score of 6.   • In case were both first and second choices were unsuccessful, International Admissions office will offer an international applicant an alternative choice option when meeting the requirements
  • Should you require on campus accommodation, please submit a completed residence application form at the same time you apply to study at UJ

Applicants who are attending or have attended a University within or outside the Republic of South Africa, must submit an academic transcript that covers the period of study, especially if they intend on being granted exemption from modules or courses at University.

Degree seeking students

In order to study for a South African degree applicants are required to have achieved a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement. All International applicants with high school qualifications achieved outside of the Republic of South Africa require a certificate of exemption from the Matriculation Board of South Africa for admission into undergraduate studies. The following supporting documents must be submitted to the Matriculation Board on the address provided below;

  • Form M30 (this form can be downloaded on the Matriculation Board website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
  • Correctly certified copies of the applicants educational qualifications certified by a South African High Commission,
  • Consulate, Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
  • A correctly certified copy of your passport or birth certificate certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate,
  • Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
  • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
  • Exemption fee as determined by the Matriculation Board (see website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
  • Submit proof of payment for the Exemption fee of R562 payable to the banking details below

Applicants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville will have to apply for Matriculation Exemption directly with Matriculation Board. Please submit all correctly certified copies by mail when applying by hardcopy application or e-mail when have applied online. The University faculties have different APS (Admission Points System) for admission. It is important that when applying to the University applicants include copy of school leaving results and/or academic record if they have studied at the university.

UJ Admission Requirements 2024

To be eligible for admission to degree study, applicants need to meet minimum requirements for eligibility:

  • Applicants holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) need to pass a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
  • Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
  • Applicants holding nonSouth African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate.
