ABOUT TRANSNET

Transnet SOC Ltd is a large South African rail, port and pipeline company, headquartered in the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg. It was formed as a limited company on 1 April 1990.

A majority of the company’s stock is owned by the Department of Public Enterprises, or DPE, of the South African government.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to communicate (verbal and writing) in English at all levels.
  • Must have a minimum of Grade 9 with minimum 3 months relevant experience.
  • Must have a valid Flagmen certificate.
  • Must be keen to develop and improve knowledge and qualifications.
  • Physical Fit( Undergo medical examination and be declared fit for duty)
  • Must be able to fill in daily reports.
  • Maintain a safe and harmonious working relationship with team.
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be prepared to work extended hours during Emergency Work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist with basic maintenance and testing of flagmen equipment.
  • Be prepared to learn the usage of relevant equipment,
  • Be health and safety conscious.
  • Report any deviances and misconduct to the Supervisor.
  • Be accountable for meeting the set target objectives set out by the supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is normally performed in a typical exterior work environment.
  • Work can be performed within in an operational area.
  • Work can be performed during occupations or shuts outside “normal” working hours.
  • Be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Be willing to work away from home/depot.
