A Well known Management Services entity based in Johannesburg is looking for a Tax Specialist who will be providing high quality assistance in tax compliance, accounting, and reporting; supporting mitigation of tax risks; and providing tax advice for the Group of Companies in South Africa

Qualifications:

  • BComm in Accounting, Finance and/or Tax Law or equivalent (MCom)
  • Post graduate studies in taxation an advantage
  • 3 – 4 years’ experience in relevant consulting or in-house tax department
  • SAICA, SAIT, SAIPA or SAIBA registered
  • Demonstrate experience in advising on domestic tax legislation
  • Strong tax technical skills
  • Up to date knowledge in IFRS
  • Exchange control experience an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience in VAT will be advantageous.
  • Experience in opinion writing will be will be advantageous.

Job description:

General

  • Provide high quality tax accounting and reporting including deferred tax.
  • Complete Income Tax returns for the SA Group companies in accordance with current tax legislation and ongoing compliance checks for Income Tax.
  • Ensure accuracy of tax calculations for SA Group companies for purposes of Group Reporting (Semi-annually, Budgets and Forecasts and Provisional tax payments)
  • Perform reconciliation of tax general ledger accounts and processing journal entries relating to tax and reconciliation to SARS statements.
  • Provide guidance in all matters relating to income tax related to the business.
  • Consult, together with Management, with SARS officials and external advisors and auditors in order to resolve tax queries.
  • Support mitigation of tax risks.
  • Proactively identify inter-connected problems, determine the impact thereof, plan and develop resolution plans.
  • Coordinate project actions and monitor progress, keeping stakeholders informed of the status
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to optimise or change existing tax processes, systems, policies and procedures.
  • Support the development of tax mitigation plans, coordinate and monitor the implementation thereof.
  • Prepare and review presentations – tax technical content determined by the needs of the business.
  • Create visibility of tax function through projects and initiatives.

Mergers & Acquisitions Tax Advisory

  • Work together with internal M&A team on a regular basis, improving tax risk and efficiency of proposed transactions.
  • Identify relevant legal and tax issues.
  • Demonstrate domestic and/or cross-border advisory experience.

International Tax and Transfer Pricing

  • Preparation of CFC tax schedules.
  • Compilation, preparation and analysis of Country-by-Country report.
  • Preparation and review of Local and Master transfer pricing files.
  • Support transfer pricing policy making and regional execution.
  • Understand differences in tax systems in different countries and advise on tax related implications on a transaction per transaction basis
