The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is inviting South African students to submit applications for the International Bursary Programme for the academic year 2024.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is offering an international bursary program for the 2024 academic year to support students pursuing postgraduate studies in the field of Film or Television abroad. The NFVF’s bursary program aims to stimulate and develop the skills of candidates interested in pursuing a career within the film and TV industry.

Bursary Details:

  • Bursaries will be awarded for international postgraduate studies in Film or Television (excluding Live Performance or Acting courses).
  • The bursary covers tuition fees and living expenses, up to a maximum value of R280,000.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the NFVF bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen or a permanent resident in South Africa.
  • Be enrolled for full-time studies towards a Postgraduate qualification in a Film/TV program not available in South Africa (the course must commence in January 2024).
  • Be enrolled at an accredited overseas tertiary institution.
  • Apply six months before the course starts.
  • Have a strong academic record.
  • Have proven financial need.
  • Read and agree to the terms in the NFVF Funding Policy.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the NFVF Bursary Application portal. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Register an account before logging in to apply.
  2. Enter “StudentRoom.co.za” in the field asking how you heard about the NFVF Bursary.

Supporting Documents: Applicants are required to submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with their online application:

  • ID document or proof of permanent residence (certified copy).
  • Full academic record (certified copy).
  • Proof of enrolment at an international institution (on institution’s letterhead).
  • Motivational letter stating why you should be awarded the bursary.
  • Proof of financial need, including parents or guardians’ proof of income (certified copy).

Note that applications submitted via fax or email will not be accepted.
