  1. Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic (10 positions)
  2. Boilermaker (2 positions)
  3. Auto Electrician (2 positions)

Reporting To: Workshop Foreman/Earthmoving Plant Manager

About Moolmans: Moolmans provides a range of services across the mining value chain, including shaft sinking, underground development, contract mining, open-cut mining, and construction of mine infrastructure. The company has experience working in various commodities and challenging locations.

Job Summary Statement: The apprentices will be responsible for the effective repair and maintenance of heavy earthmoving equipment on-site with minimal disruption. The goal is to achieve maximum availability for each plant item on-site.

Key Performance Areas (Duties & Responsibilities):

For Earthmoving Equipment Apprenticeship (X 10):

  • Assist the artisan in diagnosing faults and making repairs on all earthmoving equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on earthmoving equipment to company standards.
  • Carry out minor and major services.
  • Report all breakdowns to management.
  • Complete daily and weekly inspection sheets.
  • Order spares required for repair, maintenance, and services.
  • Monitor and measure daily efficiencies.
  • Implement productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure plant availability of 90%.
  • Coordinate services of all equipment and plant.

For Boilermaker Apprenticeship (X 2):

  • Carry out maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.
  • Fabricate from drawings, welding, and developments.

For Auto Electrician Apprenticeship (X 2):

  • Check electrical systems on designated fleet daily.
  • Analyze fault codes and carry out electrical repairs.
  • List faults that cannot be rectified immediately and report them for follow-up.
  • Arrange requisitions of electrical spares needed.
  • Perform planned electrical maintenance.
  • Check and sign service cards on a daily basis.
  • Follow up on electrical breakdowns urgently.

General Requirements:

  • Candidates must not be older than 40 years of age.
  • Candidates with the potential to become miners/artisans must have a Grade 12 or higher qualification that will progress through adult education to N2 Engineering/Mechanical.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 preferred.
  • N2 with subjects: Mathematics, Science, Drawing, and related trade theory (Boilermaking/Plating/Fitting/Diesel/Electrical).

Experience and Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • No criminal record.
  • Must pass an aptitude test.
  • Must pass a medical examination.
  • Not currently or previously registered on a learnership with a company.
  • Letter from the Local Counselor as proof of residence.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Practical experience in the relevant field is advantageous.
  • Mechanical and technical skills.
