Apprenticeship is a system for training a new generation of practitioners of a trade or profession with on-the-job training and often some accompanying study (classroom work and reading). Apprenticeships can also enable practitioners to gain a license to practice in a regulated occupation.

Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG) invites students to apply for Bursaries Programme 2023 academic year.

Bursary Application closing date  is 18 November 2022

Bursaries will be awarded to Northern Cape students, for undergraduate studies within these fields (which have been identified as scarce and critical within the province):

  • Bachelors Education – FET: Afrikaans, Xhosa and Setswana
  • Bachelors Education – Intermediate: Mathematics, Science and Accounting
  • Digital Marketing
  • Electrical Diagrams/ Schematics
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Quality Management
  • Health and Safety
  • Health Sciences
  • Hydrogen Fuel Technician
  • Hydrogen Fuel Transporter
  • Hydrogen Production Engineers
  • Hydrogen Vehicle Electrician
  • Landfill Gas Collection Technician
  • Mining Minerals and Energy
  • Natural and Agricultural Sciences
  • Nature Conservation (Field Rangers)
  • Orthotics Assistant
  • Project Management
  • Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Solar Installation
  • Solar Installation Technician
  • Tourism and Hospitality Management

The Northern Cape Provincial Transversal Bursaries Programme aims to empower unemployed youth within the Northern Cape, by providing funding to financially and academically deserving candidates.

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, books and accommodation.

The total value of the bursary is determined by a financial means test or sliding scale, according to the applicants household income:

  • If you have a total household income of R0 to R350 000 per annum, you will receive a bursary to the maximum value of R100 000
  • If you have a total household income of R350 001 to R550 000 per annum, you will receive a bursary to the maximum value of R80 000
  • If you have a total household income of R550 001 to R750 000 per annum, you will receive a bursary to the maximum value of R60 000
  • If you have a total household income of more than R750 001 per annum, you will receive a bursary to the maximum value of R50 000

The bursary will NOT cover outstanding or pre-existing study debt.

Bursary recipients will be required to partake in compulsory community service, for a minimum duration of 80 hours per academic year.

Shortlisted/ successful candidates will be contacted within 6 weeks of the application deadline. If you do not receive any feedback by 27 January 2023, please consider your application as unsuccessful.

Successful candidates will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the Northern Cape Provincial Government.

Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must reside within the Northern Cape province
  • You must be between 18 and 35 years old
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying towards an undergraduate or first degree qualification, in one of the fields listed above (full-time or distance learning)
  • You must be studying or registered to study at a recognised and accredited public Institutions of Higher Education in South Africa
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% for your current or most recent studies
  • You must be unemployed
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need, with a strong academic record

Alternatively, hard copy application forms can be collected from any of these locations: Office of the Premier, Department of Labour Centres, Thusong Centres, Urban TVET Colleges, Rural TVET Colleges, Department of Basic Education.

Submit clear copies of the following documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • A completed NCPG Bursary Checklist (Annexure A) (.pdf)
  • Identity Document (certified copy)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Most recent academic results/ transcripts, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • Proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution (certified copy)
  • Proof of registration at a tertiary institution (certified copy)
  • Parents, guardians or spouse documents (certified copies):
    • Identity Documents
    • 3 month latest bank statements
    • Letter from all registered banks confirming account details
    • Affidavit or proof from Department of Labour, if unemployed
    • Official SASSA document, if receiving a child grant or pension
    • Latest financial statement and Tax assessment, if self-employed
    • Death certificate, if deceased
    • Marriage certificate, if married
    • Divorce decree, if divorced
    • Affidavit or confirmation from school principal, if parent is single
    • Affidavit from legal guardian, if under the care of a legal guardian
    • Legal documents from social worker or Department of Justice & CD, if an orphan or fostered child

Note: documents must have been certified within the past 6 months.
